Born 1965 in Ghana, Frank Asomani did not always dream of becoming a painter. However, he could not escape his artistic talent and matured his skill while obtaining his art degree in 1992 at Accra’s Ankle College of Art. The following year, he began his professional studio practice specializing in Drawing, Painting, and Screen Printing.
While many Ghanaian artists represent market scenes, women, and musicians employing relatively legible interpretations, Asomani’s work shares the darker side of life. His twisted heads and abstract titles emphasize his belief that people pass judgment too quickly: “Until you get deep, your judgment can be wrong. The real is on the inside.” His gaunt-looking heads challenge society’s superficial dispositions that wrongly encourage empty lifestyles.
Asomani’s chosen colours range from black and white to vibrant explosions of paint. He enjoys a wide variety of subjects including lighter themes, women in catwalk, and self-designated symbols. Upon his first exhibition abroad in Amsterdam, Asomani’s work currently radiates private collections in the USA, Malaysia, and Singapore.
