Kofi Agorsor was born near Akatsi in the Volta region of Ghana in 1970. After two years of architectural studies at the Kpando Technical Colege, Agorsor discovered his true passion for painting. Subsequently, the artist enrolled at Accra’s Ankle College of Art in 1989, where he obtained his degree in 1993.
The painter and musician currently lives and works in Accra, where he is noted as a versatile contemporary artist. His practices ranging from expressionism to cubism inspired his personal style that reduces to abstraction. Agorsor combines bold colours and enhances his expression by suggesting subtle elements of irony abstracted from Ghanaian daily life and global jazz music. By providing colourful and humorous artwork, the artist reflects the vibrant dynamics of his traditional jazz group, while simultaneously sharing a provocative interpretation on both the educational system and position of women in contemporary Ghana.
With the efforts of both his artwork and music band, Agorsor contributes to his country as a cultural and humanitarian missionary; hence, shares of his profits support local orphanages in Ghana.
Presently, the artist’s work adorns the walls of several consulates, hotel lobbies, public institutions and galleries in Ghana and abroad. He currently lives and works in Accra.
