Wisdom 'Wiz' Kudowor, born in 1957, lives and works in Accra as one of Ghana's most respected and applauded contemporary artists. Educated at The Kwame Nkrumeh College of Art, University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana; ‘Wiz’ boasts an impressive career. His bold canvasses have traveled to group and solo exhibitions in Asia, Europe, North America and throughout Africa.
His paintings recall themes of traditional Ghanaian painting while revealing subtle explorations of spirituality and abstraction. Cubist and Futurist leanings combine with figuration to reveal intangible narratives. His technique unique, ‘Wiz’ deftly advances and recedes focus and conventional adherences to the ‘window’ picture plane. He lends authenticity to explorations of the unfamiliar.
Kudowor has designed and executed public works in Ghana including a relief mural at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. His works are held widely in both private and public collections worldwide.
Many consider ‘Wiz’ a transcultural visionary due to the illusory universal qualities he brings to canvas. His work is surreal in that it pushes against the ordinary representation to portray staggeringly evocative truths about humanity.
